MG MGF Technical - Leaking Oil?

Hi,

On my way to work this morning I took an unfamiliar back road due to traffic problems.
While I was enjoying the twists and turns on this narrow country road the car got a serious whack when it bottomed out going down a dip in the road.
I have never felt such a bang.

Anyway, I was just in the car park and noticed a small puddle of oil/black stuff under the front right-side of the car.

Is it possible to have damaged the car in any way to cause a such a leak.

It felt fine after the event.

Shane.

Shane,

As it is on the front of the car it cannot be engine oil or gearbox oil. If its black it cannot be brake fluid or suspension fluid or coolant. So you may have damaged/split one of the steering rack gaiters which are packed with grease or damaged one of the front shock absorbers. Have a good look under the wheel arches.

I don't think there is anything oily there...
The 214 was designed with a bit of metal on the chasis which would ground before anything else, then it was the exaust next. I would be supresied if you could easily hit the sump, but if you did then it would be leaking around the centre of the car, in line with the engine vents.

Thanks,
I'll take a closer look.

Shane, are you sure that the oil puddle wasn't there before you parked? The other possibility is that the oil has run forward from the rear of the car and collected in a dip in the car park by your front right wheel.

Had a good look and the good news is everything seems to be ok.

I just hate that feeling when the car bottoms out like that!
I know there will be a day I will not get away with it.
The roads here are so sh!t!

Cheers.
Shane
