MG MGF Technical - Lock Lubrication
Had one hell of a job to get the key into the bootlock this morning. It would enter about one third and then no further. After some tentative pushing and pulling for a few minutes it finally went in and opened Ok. Subsequently it was OK as well. Anyone similar problems, solutions - recommended lock lubricants etc?Car is only 16 months old so lock isn't worn. (Couldn't try other key - in boot - in briefcase - doh!) Thanks |

Use some lock lubricant (graphite grease) available at your local hardware shop |

Terry Rather than using a liquid or spray lubricant try some graphite - pencil lead shavings - just a tip here though, make sure you take out the bits of wood :0) The graphite will work a treat and won't get sticky either. Tim |

The smut possibilities on this thread are endless........ Graphite's good don't use a liduid based lubricant as in short order problem will be even worse. Give your "key" a hefty rubbing with a soft pencil. Seriously! |
