MG MGF Technical - low water alarm

whats the best/easiest low water alarm to fit to a 1999 mgf?

I think there are only two: Brown & Gammons' one or the 'Lolarm' - very subjective about which is best. Everybody thinks they have the best one - that is human nature. I am very content with the B&G one fitted for more than two years without issue. Try the archive search here and on the MGF Register for more opinions.
Charless

As Charles says, only 2 to chose from.
The B&G is more expensive and much more difficult to fit, but does utilise some OEM parts and is a more integrated suystem - ie it auto tests itself every time you turn on the ignition.
LowAlarm - fits in as the water cap and you need to trust it's working or manually test it with one of the buttons on teh unit in the cab.

I have the B&G one but didn't fit the light (just the audio indicator) because the light it comes with is naff. It has been real life tested and works. Expensive but worth the money.

I have friends who have teh LoAlarm and they are also very happy and have proven it in rel life situations

So you pays your money and takes your choice.

Thanks for your replies guys.I will take alook at these.

I had a Lo-Alarm and it did its job warning me when I had a slight leak from the inlet manifold before any damage was done.
But it is not very robust and fell apart.
I now have a hybrid system with the Lo-Alarm warning module combined with a TF 05 model year tank with the MG Rover level switch in it.
If you browse the web you will find on Dieters site I believe a couple of suggestions for home brewed systems using the MG Rover 05 model year tank and switch and a buzzer behind the drivers seat.
Dave

Thanks Dave i've decided to buy the B&G system after giving it some thought.

Good decision; and if I were doing it again I would definitely follow David m's advice about not fitting the LED. If you really miss it, try the archives for connecting to one of the unused binnacle warning lights but the buzzer is way loud enough on its own.
Charless

I've also got the B&G one. I agree about the buzzer, but instead of fitting the awful light that came with the kit, I fitted a small LED in one of the switch blanks.

Just had a call from B&G they have been waiting 4 MONTHS for more low water alarm kits to arrive.Just my luck,So i've added one more to their list.

I agree about the absolutely awful standard supply warning light. Nothing to stop you using the un-used (in UK/EU cars at any rate) catalyst over-heat lamp - which is exactly what I did. Much nicer, and looks completely OE.

Later versions of MGF and TF could perhaps use the 2004 MY warning lamp? Might take a bit of fiddling to fit though...
Rob Bell

I cancelled my B & G coolant alarm as I had been waiting so long. I have recently received the LOLARM from Andy. It looks the business. He has made some mods to the original. I've not had chance to fit it yet. I've got a lot of work to do on my F including fitting an aluminium radiator and a thorough service amongst other things. So it will get fitted then. Of late, I've been enjoying my other MG - a 1972 B roadster.
