MG MGF Technical - MG TF Central Locking

The central locking on my 03 tf is playing up, and was wondering if there are any easy fixes available.

Symptoms,
I can unlock the car with the remote (it makes groaning Sound) however the car wont central lock with the keys or the remote, I have to push the passenger door button manually, and lock the drivers door with the key,

I have replaced the Drivers lock /motor with aused one but made no difference.

Any ideas please

Many thanks

I would suspect a failed relay in the Pektron SCU, read the listing on the ebay link below. The relays in these units are a known weakness. I replaced all 5 when the horn relay failed on mine, it's an easy job if you can use a soldering iron but it can be a challenge to get out as it's held in place with security screws.

I should have read your other post before replying, at least you know how to get the unit out.

Thanks Aain for your help Bob, Can you tell me by replacing the relay would the central locking need reprogramming.

Many Thanks
h kemal

If it's only the relay that's causing the problem then no reprogramming should be required. If you follow the link in the previous post it'll take you to Technozen's ebay listing, he's the expert on these ask him the question.

Hi Bob

Just to let you know, ive replaced the central lcking relay on the bcu, and now the central locking works a treat, although it still makes the groaning noise.

Again thanks for your help on this, it's fantastic that you share your knowledge to help people out

Kind Regards
h kemal

Lubricating the door locking solenoid might cure the groaning.

Hi Bob,

After my initial fix, the car was running like a dream, however a few days ago the alarm went off at the crack of dawn.

after turning it off with the remote, when i got in the car a few hours later the central locking on both sides was making a groaning/ whirring noise, which stopped when i started the car.

after my journey when i turned the engine off, the whirring and horn started again.

this continued for two days then i decided to disconnect the battery.

now the problem is worse, i cant open the passenger door at all, its in the lock position permanently, the drivers can only be unlocked with the key, and the horn still goes off when i switch the engine off, although i have now disconnected the horn.

any help even if i can only open the passenger door.

Many thanks
h kemal

re-check the new relays first would be my suggestion. Or did you just replace the one?

From the ebay listing :

Other SCU services are available.....

Fob Coding.
SCU Unlocking.
SCU Cloning (Water Damaged Units).
EKA Retrieval.
SCU repair to component level.
IC Replacement (Horn sounds constantly).

Please enquire!

I'd email the seller and describe the symptoms, maybe the IC has gone?
