MG MGF Technical - mgf 60,000 mile service

Hi all, I have recently purchased a 1998 mgf and the owner said it received a 60,000 mile service which is not recorded in the book (all other services are recorded. I would like to have the service done for peace of mind. Does any one know a reputable service centre in berkshire (near windsor perhaps)? I dont really want to go to an mg dealer as they have quoted me over £600.00 to do the service. Thanks

Seems in the right ball park for an MGR dealer. Mine had the audacity to charge me £65 per hour labour (plus VAT) last week so it soon mounts up.

Look on Brown & Gammon site for their prices as a guide for independants.

How far are you from TechSpeed? Look on their site as well.

I'm going to B&G next time - they are only 14 miles away and my wife drives there every day anyway. Only went to dealer this time as I was still trying for warranty to pay.

Aiden,

I would recommend that you take the trouble to drive to one of the well respected independents and begin a long-term relationship with them so that they get to know your car. My own recommendation is for Tech-speed Motorsport in Eathorpe, near Leamington Spa. They are an 80 mile drive for me (Amersham) so will be more like 95 for you, but are well worth it. Their price list can be found on http://www.xpower-mg.com/Tech_Speed.htm and you'll see that a 5 year/60K service is £370. IMHO their expertise and customer service is excellent. You'll fin many others on this board with the same experience.

Why not ask the previous owner where the 60k service was done. While it is likely the guy was not telling the truth, it is also possible that he did have the work done and the garage did not stamp the book.

If it has been done then getting the book stamped by the garage is easy and you save £600!

Surely worth a telephone call.

Aidan, my recently purchased F hails from Berkshire and has always been looked after by Tridents in Ottershaw, near Woking. The previous owner was very fastidious about the car so I'd assume they're a good garage.
