MG MGF Technical - MGF and TF half roll cages

Just been chatting to the Australian supplier of the roll cage that Andrew uses in the MGF race series they have there.

Fully FIA approved and CAMS certified, it differs from roll cages available in the UK in that the design cleverly permits the retention of the soft top frame and hood...

Cost would be AUS$780 (about 332 quid) each plus shipping. I am wondering how many of us would be interested in this kit? Andrew's provided me some pictures of his - and also some startling images of the cage in practice (the cage worked!!!)

Let me know, and I'll pass on the information to David Brown...
Rob Bell

Hi Rob,

Not sure I'd want to see those pics, but I'd definitely be interested in a cage that doesn't restrict the practicalities. In fact it sounds perfect!
Mike Hankin

Okay Mike, I'll put you on the interested list. I have absolutely no idea as to what the shipping costs will be - presumably a function of the number of units shipped?
Rob Bell

Worth looking into getting a UK manufacturer to make them under license, perhaps? It does seem illogical to have them assembled about as far from these shores as it's possible to get, and in shipping terms they'd hardly be space efficient.
Mike Hankin

I agree. Perhaps Mike is reading this thread and is in a position to help out? :o)
Rob Bell

I suspect I'm far from alone in having baulked at the 'hidden' costs (i.e. a raceweight hardtop) of the Safety Devices version, so one without this limitation would undoubtedly be very saleable.
Mike Hankin

Very true Mike - Rob already has my interest logged!

Guys,

as much as I would like to throw businees to Aussies, I feel that it would be cheaper for you guys to look in your own back yards.

Forgot to mention, they don't have one listed for MGF, but, hey, Demand creates supply.
