MG MGF Technical - MGF Cabin Heater

Just purchased a 97 VVC and the cabin heater blows out hot air on the coolest setting. Is this normal ? if not any suggestions on what the problem is.

Thanks in advance
AB Irwin

The hot/cold control is just a cable operated water valve located behind the heater.
Turning the rotary knob should push/pull the simple on/off water walve.
Have you checked the mechanical linkage from the knob to the water valve?
If you remove the plastic panels with interior footwell light you should be able to see what I mean.

Thanks Tony,

You were spot on. The valve arm had become dislodged from the plastic arm guide connected to the wire linkage.

Glad you got it fixed Adrian - I have the same problem and will take a look through the footwell light as Tony suggests. Did you have the symptom whereby the rotary knob turns round and round? 'Cos that's what mine does.

If not, does this mean I might have a different problem - Tony maybe you can answer this one too??

Thanks in advance.

My 1-2-3-4 selstor rotary know spins roundand will select something but it's very hit an miss. Is there an easy fix for this perchance?

Rob/Martin.

The plastic shafts on your dials can snap where the end of the shaft locates into the control box!.

If you pull off the control knobs you should be able to see!... They do need a bit of force to remove though!!.

Cheers Mark!

I'll give it a whirl over the weekend and see if I can pull my faulty knob off.

Useful bodge if the end of the plastic heater knob stem has split, is to cover it with heat shrink tubing.
If the knob is forced, the spring metal insert opens up and splits the plastic stem. The heat shrink tubing keeps it all together and strengthens it. I've done all mine to hopefully prevent this happening again, because I've got 05 knobs on an 02 135.
