MG MGF Technical - MGF Clutch

So, 80,000 miles into Emma the MG's life and she now wont pull forward, well not with any real acceleration anyway. The clutch is catching only when the pedal is completely released, and even this is not enough to stop the clutch slipping when I put my foot down.

So, 2 questions,

1) Could it be that a small cable adjustment could solve this problem?

2) If not, does anyone know a website with a good description on how to replace the clutch disc?

Thanks a lot in advance guys,

Garry

Gary, the MGF clutch is hydraulic - so not much adjustment is available.

You might want to check the actuator arm and the clutch slave cylinder. I've heard of a case where the clutch release bearing had seized...

But I suspect that the clutch is on its way out. Depending on driving style and the sort of driving you do, MGF clutches can go within 60k miles.

The workshop manual has good instructions for clutch replacement.

Concur, if there is aproblem with the mech then it's usual to have a problem disengauging(sp?) rather than engauging. A problem engauging is usually down to a worn out cluch.

The cluch sits on the flywheel, which is between the engine and gearbox, to get at it you need to seperate the engine and gearbox, I don't think this is an 'at home' job I'm afraid.

Hi,

if you need a new clutch, I have a spare one (brand new, from Brown & Gammonds) which I didn't use. But I have only the disk. It depends on what you need to change. This is an APRacing disk, picture hehre : http://mgfcup.forumtuning.com/MyCar/Ete2003_7big.jpg

I can do a VERY good price on it ;-)

what kind of "good price"???

Ths clutch kit is at http://www.ukmgparts.com/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=bg&cat=MGF&cov=Y&mode=detail&o=105359323522012&code=BGF5005&filen=mgf12&head2=MGF
for £170 , I think a good price might me around (£70) including shipment.

BUT >>> "my" clutch doesn't include the 3 parts... I really don't know if its mandatory or not to change everything. And I don't have the technical knowledge to answer that question !

AND >>> I don't know how we can arrange for payment ;-( Tell me if my offer is interesting for you and I'll found an easy solution)
