MG MGF Technical - mgf engine changes.

hi has any one tried to put something a little more interesting in a mgf i.e 2200cc, 0r a honda v-tec engine 2000cc.

Civic type R engine has been done - I also understand that Mike Satur does a Type R conversion inc gearbox for about £8500 + VAT so it aint cheap. In standard form it puts out 200 bhp.

A few KV6 conversions have been completed, and on a much lower budget, but bear in mind that the K series engine is very light, so virtually any other engine option will increase the weight (and affect the weight distribution)

If you browse the Elise board you'll find a rich array of conversions there, none that could be called 'cheap' or 'simple' though...

Yup, almost anything is possible with the right budget. Not sure which of the options would be the most 'affordable' - but £8.5k for a VTEC installation would represent something of a bargain!

<<a few V6>>

??

by my knowledge only 1

When will someone put a -albeit heavy- T16 powerplant in the car. It is common knowledge on rover bubble cars

I think thats a low price for the conversion and the last one done now puts out 221bhp after some modification. You would also need to enter in the safety factor i.e brakes, suspension etc.

I have got to agree 8.5 k would be a bargain. As far as 'affordable' some things are done not just to a budget, but more to push ideas. Now that the donnor cars are running at 3k, to do the 'R' transplant becomes more 'affordable', sums as follow: donnor car 3k +donnor 'R' conv. say 8.5, poss 10 with vat. + brakes suspension mods, 2.5k gives about 16k for a quick and safe animal. However ( aimed at Dr. Bell) strip out the interior, use grp ( carbon is for show offs) fit a low weight top and you have a well sorted bhp per ton (this is the only real figures you want to go by)little mover for track days ( and supermarket shopping), trust me.

£8.5k + VAT = £10k, which was the price Mike quoted to me back in December.

Once you have done all this won't you end up with a eerrr .... Lotus Elise :)
