MG MGF Technical - MGF Ground Clearance

Hi all.

Can anyone tell me what ground clearance i should have?

I have problems with the speed bumps at work scraping the bottom of the car but a colleague who used to have an MGF says she never had a problem.

On a non-lowered, i.e. original suspension with no lowering knuckles, the ride height should be measured fron the centre of each wheel to the top of the wheel arch.

Quick reference: 368mm +/- 10mm

Workshop manual for checking ride height...

Note: Ride height measurements should NOT be checked for at least 2 hours after the car has been driven. This is to ensure Hydra-Gas fluid temperature and suspension have had sufficient time to settle.

Step 1: Park unladen car on flat level surface with steering in a straight ahead position.

Step 2: Bounce each end of the car a number of times and allow to settle.

Step 3: Roll car forward 1 metre to relieve any stress in suspension. Do not apply handbrake - position wheel blocks to prevent car rolling.

Step 4: Push down front of the car and release allowing the suspension to return unaided. Do not re-apply handbrake.

Step 5: Measure both front ride heights from top centre of the wheel arch to centre of wheel hub. Front ride height for standard MPI and VVC models is 368mm +/- 10mm. For MGF's with modified/lowered suspension, consult the workshop where the modification took place (if possible) for appropriate values.

HI,

Are you sure it's not something as simple as hydragas needs topped up ?

Here in New Zealand they stick a coke can under the car to check height. If it won't fit then you need more gas to raise the height. This happens every 6mths for WOF check.

The lowest point is a lashing loop on the front subframe, the next lowest is arguably the central square cover or the main coolant pipes.
