MG MGF Technical - MGF Heater blows on3&4 not on 1&2

My Heater only works when it is on 3 & 4 setting, which sometimes is too much, but it never works on setting 1&2 which is really what i want to be able to keep it on of a cold day.

I've lokked at a few threads but not really found the problem yet. don't really want to take it to a garage to get it done. Any Advice...?

It’s likely that your heater resistor packs have failed, have a look at the “Heater motor resistor pack” thread just down the page for a few more details.

Concur heater resister pack.......

Pack is fitted to the heater box behind, and at the back of centre console, you will need to remove glove box then lie in the footwell (Fun!) to gain acess.
resister pack is about the size of a mathchbox with a small multi-plug wiring connection, and held in with 2 screws at the top of the heater box!!........ around £25 IIRC....

Have fun!!....

Yes C Tideswell is correct, you will need to change the heater pack, it should be around £20-£30.
I think you take out the glove box, then you will find the old heater pack to the right behind the heater control system.

Is there an Echo on here??..... ;O)

if you can get it out you can stretch the wire and resolder it back to the start point i did this last year and it is still working

Just going to jump in on this thread to say that I've got the same problem, but only on setting 1. I've been doing a bit of research and came up with this:

http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/ICE/glove_box_removal.htm Nice one Rob! :-)

So that's the glove box removal sorted, just need to get around to order the part and do the job.

Thanks guys,

Been looking at it today and it is exactly as mentioned, a b**tard to get (upside down in footwell)to but i also found out where the water in my footwell was leaking from..!

the problem with heater was that the heater resistor wire had broken, there are three wires in total and two had broken, i've now managed to fix two to get it working on setting 2 3 and 4 but wire one was broken altogether, and as i needed to fix the leak too i have decided to be happy with 2 3 &4 working and fix the leak rather than wait to get new resistor and risk a footspa in footwell.

The instrustions i used where posted as mentioned above for anyone who is interested, it was on another thread for that same problem, with pictures, although the description of removing glove box above was much easier for the glove box part at least.

Anyhow, got both jobs done so i'm a happy chappy for now...! (;

Thanks..!

Bradley

I have the same problem - Blimey!

Anyone got a photo of what this resister pack looks like?
