MG MGF Technical - MGF Strimmer noise/tizzing pt3

Just to keep you all updated.

Purchased the flexipipe bracket as detailed on Dieters site (cheers), and went to fit at the weekend, then found cat heat shield was well loose, so spent most of the morning devising a way to hold it in place.

Anyway did that and tried to fit bracket, but with my limited resourses couldn't get under the car enough to take it off comfortably.

It's going into my favorite exhaust fitters, (Havers Tyres in Norwich), great bunch of guys, Richard in particular, who will fit it for me free (since they already fitted three diff flex pipes)

Just wondering if anyone who has had this problem/noise, has actually had it cured by this bracket??

I understand the bracket is now a standard fit after '99, but when Dieters site refers to it as a rattle rather then a tizz/strimmer!!

Cheers all!

Afternoon all,

Got the bracket fitted, and hasn't made a blind bit of difference, I am getting really pi**ed off now.

Went back to MG who told me that they had had a problem with aftermarket downpipes, although what i'm supposed to have on their now (a Walker and Jones?) is about as good as they get aftermarket. They quoted me £196 for a downpipe a yr ago, and i'm damned if i'm paying out yet more money...

I'm looking into a SP exhaust secondhand at the moment, trying to get a price from someone, anyone know what they worth secondhand?? I won't be able to fit until Nov when i can change ins comps or my current comp will let me fit.

The noise is really getting on my nerves to the point where i have almost traded it in twice! I am hoping that loud enough backbox and 57i will drown it out.....

Sorry to moan guys but it's taking all the fun out at the moment...

The noise on my car is the outside casing of the cat - it's corroded at the bottom edge and vibrates. I've tried wrapping wire round it and clipping it in place, which has helped but not eliminated the noise. Real solution is a new cat, I suppose. :(

Tim, try some really big jubilee clips joined together and put around the cat with some metal packing pieces where you need extra pressure. My Passat did this and £5 of clips cured it for years

Ian - my car used to have a tizz vibration. On my car, this was found to be eminating from the 'zorst heat shield - and in fact, mine had split. I removed the 'shield (dumped it into a skip actually) and never replaced it.

As with all noises, there can be several causes. Check out the heatshields and everything else connected to the exhaust system - this could even be a problem with a loose baffle inside the silencer box!

Fit a CRP (£20-£30) enjoy the noise and the tizz might also go :-)
Steve Ratledge

I can't fit CRP due to insurance reasons, and will have to grind my nuts off (no comments please).

I will investigate all heat shields if it stops flippin raining, I know CAT shield was loose but I thought I had got it sorted, will have to hold everything tight, yes, I know it'll get hot, while someone revs the car, to see if it is heat shield related.....

The saga continues.....
