MG MGF Technical - MGF SURVEY ? Missing Hydragas Unit disaster :)

Hi,
please don't scalp me. Said it already to a thread on the General Subject.

IMO there was no problem reported to the BBS in the last couple of month.

This is strange for the MoD ;)

OK the MGF is out of production now, but years ago there were lots of blown reported. Nearly independant of the mileage.

The mad question is:
Who had problems with blown/leaking Hydragas Units (Displacer) in the last year and had to replace one or more ?

................................
appearance Year/Month: ??/??
Location: rear or front
Mileage:
Car Make Year:
...............................

Let me start, I had no problem with my 1999 made current MGF since 45k miles.
Wherein my old 96 made had blown two in late 1998.

To be reported from my humble side is *nothing*.

Anyone ?
Dieter K.

Dieter,

Yep, I also had a unit fail on me

MK1, manufactured 1998, 1st registered in Nov 98
Started failing January 2002 and after inflating the system twice the unit was finally identified as being faulty at the end of February 2002

The leaking unit was in the rear left hand unit from memory and occurred at 27k miles

hope that helps

cheers

One of mine went aswell, bought my 98 VVC in March 2001 and noticed within weeks that it was lower on the Drivers side (I think), took it to local MGR Dealer who pumped it up, low and behold a week later it had dropped again so had to have a new hydrgas unit fitted (not covered underr warrenty).

The car was on 23K at the time.

DK, The cause of my many 'groundings' on the Treffen last year was due to a leaking unit which was replaced soon after, Y2K Trophy 160 SE
Mike

1999 VVC, 40000km on the odo, no suspension problems whatsoever.

Nor even a single pump on the system, Car is now running low on 340mm. But I'm delaying the pumping job.
This way I can only say that I love the system!

Cheers, Valter.

my 1997 mpi had 2 hydragas failures :
1) 06/1998 : rear left unit @ approx 18.000 km
2) 06/1999 : rear right unit @ approx 35.000 km

both spheres replaced FOC, although the second time, the warranty period was over by one year.

Never had any problem since then.
My car was pumped up twice, and I had lowering knuckles fitted.

Ahh, good old surveys

1998 MkI (obviously) 1.8Mpi
70000kms -- no suspension problems
(adding some fluid to the system now and then)
Erik

1997 1.8MPi, 99000 kms

no failures, only fluid related job was fitment of lowering knuckles two years ago.
seems to be a bit low currently, but I like it that way :-)
Andreas Holzhammer

Had two units fail. Both times on landing after passing small hump-backed bridge:-)))
Ddraig

My first failed in a bumpy german city street. Where n some of you know that 'bumpy german roads' mean smooth roads in other countries. I think in comparison with NZ streets ;)
The second was porous from factory. The fluid just went off within the first couple of miles

However. This seams the most boring survey we ever had ?

I assume they improved manufacturing quality and reliabilty from 1999 upwards.

Only ONE leaking at Mikes since MY2000 ???
Dieter K.

Dieter,

1996 1.8MPi, 40000 kms (one of the first cars in Holland, to be exactly # 66)

no failures ever, pumped up only once.
