MG MGF Technical - mgf tf engine swop

hi , can any one help , i have a 135 TF engine that i want to put in my mgf ( i already have a TF engine in it that was converted to the mgf fitment by swopping the cams, i am still running the MEMS1.9 ecu)i need to know if i can change the ecu to the later MEMS3 that matches the 135TF engine ( i have been told that it is possible to drop it straight in by changing that and the alarm/keyfob )
or how difficult is it to put the bush drive spindle into the end of the cam on the TF engine , i would have thought it would have to done very accuratly because it is running the distributor

cheers

Bit puzzelled, you have a TF engine fitted to a MGF and you want to fit another TF engine(why?) or have you fitted the TF engine and refitted the std cams from the old engine? If you are wanting to use the higher lift cams from the TF then as you suggest fit the diz drive into the end of the cam.

the engine i have in at the moment is only a 1600 with the standard cams out of the old engine , i want to fit the TF135 engine complete if possible . i looked at putting the dizzy drive into the end of the cams last time i did the engine but surely it has to be set up very very precisely. If i only have to change the electrics, ecu etc the this looks the easier option .especially as the engine is sat there complete

No, you can easily insert the distributor bush spindle into the end of a TF 135 cam (it's part number NJJ10001 from your local MG Rover parts department, cost about 24 quid). This will allow you to perform a straight swap and maintain your existing MEMS1.9 and fuel rail (complete with the larger injectors - assuming that you've still got the inlet manifold from your old 1.8?)

Without doubt, this is the easier solution than changing the whole engine management to MEMS3, although this can certainly be done...

I don't know if the 1.6 MEMS will be happy with a 1.8, also keeping the Engine/ECU/5AS together will probebly mean having to bring the wiring loom to the party, defo the engine bay loom, prolly the rest of the car too :-(

Hmm, about time I reinvestigated your site Rob ;-)
