MG MGF Technical - MGF VVC - Rev Limiter???

I have a MGF 1.8VVC (V Reg)

It will not rev past 6000rpm. I understand it should rev past 7000rpm.

Anyone heard of this before. I'm suspecting the Camshaft Position Sensor. According to the manual, if the ECU does not recieve this signal, the car will run in "grouped fuelling mode" and rev limit at 5500-5800.

Could also be VVC set-up/hydraulic control solenoid??

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Pete Turnbull

Could be the cam position sensor but more likely to be the oil temp sensor on the hydraulic controller. have it checked on test book to see what is at fault. The controller could also be loosing pressure due to bore wear. Also if you haven't history with the vehicle then it could be incorrect cam timing.ie belts fitted incorrectly.

Thanks Mike.

I took it to a mechanic this morning. No error codes shown, but it wasn't TestBook.

It had a cambelt change just before I bought it so you could be on to something. Maybe it wasn't set up right.

I'll have to let Rover have a look at it and give me their oppinion (...and their bill - GULP!!)

Thanks again.

Had error codes re-set today. No new ones registering. Still limiting at 6000rpm. Don't like the sound of this. Any ideas people?????

Help!!!!!!

Could still be cam timing, did your dealer check this when he cleared the fault codes. Incorrect timing won't give a fault code on Testbook or T4.

I have just been told by a Rover Dealer that there is a good chance that it is VVC timing. They have also told me that they can adjust the timing by computer. This seems very strange to me. Thaey said it's £65 +_ VAT an hour to do this.

I thought the timing was a long and laborious process which meant taking the cam-cover off.

Am I being spun a line here or what!!

Somebody please shed some light on it??
