MG MGF Technical - MGTF ARB -FAO Rob Bell

Rob did you ever get around to fitting the thicker TF front Anti Roll Bar to your F?

Or has anybody else done it?

Cheers
Steve
Steve Ratledge

Steve,

I have a TF front ARB which I bought by mistake for my F Trophy. Long story! :o(

I would be amazed if someone has achieved it, having spent a good hour trying to work out why I couldn't get the one I bought to fit before realising the dealer's had sold me the wrong one! Granted, if I had of been in a better mood at the time and not in so much of a hurry, I probably would of twigged that they were completely different! D'oh!

But anyway, if someone has, and you wish to do the same, please feel free to get in contact as mine is just sat around collecting dust! £40 and it's yours! :o)
Kris Ford

Kris - why would it not fit? Was it a different shape?
Steve Ratledge

Afraid so.

The ends where it meets the linkages are completely different.
The F ARB is quite straight - /_/

Whereas the TF ARB has more bends (Sorry about the lack of technical terms here) - -/_/-

In order for it to fit, you would probably need the TF wishbones to make the linkages fall in the right places?

The linkages themselves are the same part number for the F or TF but where they are mounted on the different models makes them sit in different place for joining up to the ARB.

I've just realised how difficult this is to explain in words! Sorry. :oD
Kris Ford

oops, just noticed that my poor attempt at diagrams using back slash and forward slash have been distorted.

I was trying to display that where the F ARB only has 2 bends, the TF ARB has 4.
Kris Ford

P.p.s The difference in diameter is absolutely minimul to the point that the TF ARB will quite happily sit in the original F Brackets. I don't know though if this is just because I have a Trophy and it's slightly bigger or whether they came with the same size ARB as all F's?
Kris Ford

Kris, I bought the whole front ARB assembly, complete with bushes and drop links, from the MGF Centre :o)

Steve - er, no, not fitted it yet. I had wanted to fit the rear ARB at the same time, but this will require quite a lot of fettling to make fit.

The reason for my not fitting the front one any way is that I am anxious that I am going to exacerbate understeer on track.

I might try and fit it - a "suck it and see" experiment! :o)
