MG MGF Technical - MGTF Camber Settings

Hi All

I've just had the TF lowered (X Power Springs) and the alignment showed that the front left camber was -1.11 and the rear right -2.00. All other settings were fine.

I was informed that the camber cannot be adjusted on the TF. Car seems to run fine even at speed.

Should I be concerned? Is there anything that can be done to adjust the camber. If so would it be very expensive?

TIA
Tony L

... but do they fit the TF with XPower lowering springs?
John Ponting

Yes John, they certainly do.

This was Option Sports Pack 1 by the factory and now fitted by several aftermarket suppliers - one of whom will tell owners that the camber settings can be wrong/different when they came out of the factory. It could also indicate damage caused by a collison with a kerb which may not be noticeable until the tyre wears out on one edge.

Tony - you cannot adjust the camber without replacing parts. If the car drives OK don't worry about it just keep an eye on your tyre wear.

It is a little surprising that that there is almost a whole degree different between left and right camber - but there is not a great deal you can do about it unfortunately.

One thing of note is that some have reported that fitting PU bushes have corrected anomolous camber settings (see the archives). Whether it is worth it for this alone is highly debatable, but if you were considering changing the bushes for other reasons, this is another argument in this modification's favour. :o)

Thanks for the responses.

One thing though, when the garage set the adjustment they used the settings for the standard TF and not the settings for the TF Sports pack one. Was this the correct thing to do. I was under the impression that the sports pack springs were different from the x power ones.

Anyway, car seems to be fine. Visualy the front left wheel does seem slightly cambered compared to the right. I was thinking however that as most london roads are cambered to the left anyway the wear may not be so great?

Geometry settings for sports pack and standard suspension are effectively identical (other than the areas that are influenced by trim height and unadjustable - i.e. camber and caster)
