MG MGF Technical - Mike Satur Radiators

Been looking into upgrading the coolant system on My Abingdon which I bought a couple of months ago. The work I am looking at doing is the following:

1. Fit coolant level alarm to system
2. Fit stainless underbody coolant pipes
3. Renew all flexible hoses
4. Radiator flush or replace.
5. Renew coolant

I have been looking at Mike Satur's website and noticed a "more efficient" radiator is listed. Does anyone have any experience with this rad, is it truly better than the normal manufacturer fit?

Will be aiming to get these jobs done along with a CAM belt change and tensioner as I have no history of it being done with the car or when!

Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to the trouble of replacing the coolant pipes and the hoses, I would replace the rad at the same time.

I replaced my pipes, front hoses and rad with one from MS earlier this year, make sure the system is bled properly though, it can be a pain but you MUST get the air out.

Both the pipes and the rad are very well made, from memory the rad was a little larger than the old one, and being ali, doesn't rust like the old one !

Don't forget to change coolant cap.
Water pump may be a good idea if your "in the area" changing the belts.

You've probably also thought of this but when you're ordering the hoses and ss underfloor pipes, get Mike's hose clips for the bits your changing. Far better than the stock MG ones.

I had my coolant system refurbished by mike over 9 months ago using the components you describe. For not much extra I also got him to replace the water pump, cam belt and tensioner along with the alternator belt while he was at it. By fitting the B&G low water level sensor kit you not only get peace of mind but a new expansion cap as well to finish the job off.

Although some disagree, I figured that as most of the system was being replaced and the remaining parts of the system properly flushed. I took the opportunity to change the original coolant (green) and replace it with the pink/orange MGR OAT coolant with no probs to report so far.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Had already planned to buy the improved hose clips from Mike S as part of the package for improving the cooling system.

The garage where I intend to get the work done has MG/Rover mechanics there, and I will be sure to check that they can vaccum fill the system.

I suppose if the water pump is changed as well that is just about as much peace of mind you can get!!

thanks again for the help

Vacuum filling not necessarily a good thing because it can cause metal fatigue in pipework.

If the technician knows what they are doing, filling the traditional way is fine.

I think Mike follows the instructions on Dieter's site for bleeding. The only time I've not heard "air" going through pipes (or possibly the heater matrix) when the coolant is hot is after Mike did the coolant change. Taking your time pays dividends.
