MG MGF Technical - Mintex Brake Pads?
Had rear pads and disks fitted on Friday to my '97 mpi. When I booked it in I specified Mintex pads. When I collected my car on Friday night I asked about the pads fitted, they seemed reluctant to tell me anything about them which leads me to think they have charged me for the pads but not fitted them. Is there ane easy way to identify Mintex pads with out removing them? |

Not very easy TBQH. Not many external distinguishing features unfortunately - even if you can see the pad back plate through the caliper. Demand proof of Mintex fitment if you are concerned - there should be evidence of purchase of pads. |

Mate, you could try Mike Satur's web site as he sells the Mintex pads and he might be able to offer some advice on how to check. The specific page on Mike's site is: http://www.mikesatur.co.uk/fx01.html Hope this helps. Phil |

Look at http://www.mintex.co.uk and then nav to products, pads, and then the "R90" stuff at the bottom. The link gives a piccie... "All Mintex brake pad boxes are supplied with a bar code label incorporating brief application details, Regulation 90/E-Marking where applicable and the relative brake accessory fitting kit." Also, *what* Mintex pads were fitted? There are many. :-) |

i don't know if this is a unique feature but i noticed mine were coated with a high gloss black paint on the metal bits. |

Paul, When I asked what pads were fitted thats when they (the people in the garage), started to talk around my question. When I look at the pads they seem to be covered in a high gloss black paint, and not just the metal parts thats Laurence mentioned. Maybe I'm just to suspicious!!! |

Mintex pads even before Reg 90 and the new E marking requirements used to have the makers name stensilled across the back of the metal backing, often with a specific brand and part number. If the pads are fited without anti squeal shims you will be able to see the centre part of the backing pad through the wheel. Failing this the only way to be sure is to remove a pad and examine it.
