MG MGF Technical - Mk1 - Mk2 door Panel Upgrade

Does anyone know if the Mk2 door panel is a direct replacement to the Mk1 ? i.e a straight fit?

And if so does anyone have any Mk2 panels needing a new home before I phone the MGF Center ?
D Jamieson

Dave,

Yup they should fit ok Dave.

PS
what door inserts do you have? ie the bit that goes around the door lock release handle.

The bit that has the horrid VVC zig zaggy design on mine.

Hmmm, think you know where i am leading with this ;-)

Paul, mine are red with a grey /silver zig zag. Looking to change to a cream or dark inset on the MK2
D Jamieson

Yes - direct replacement, no problems :o)

See pix at http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/BRM_concept.htm and scroll down :o)

If you are planning on using the Tweeters that come with the door card, get the associated wiring loom - it saves a fair bit of hastle later.

<<mine are red with a grey /silver zig zag>>

Cheers Rob, Victoria is looking me out a set as we speak.

Heh, you should have mentioned it last week, I could have brought them up for you.

Didnt think Paul........ its one of my spur of the moment decisions, just as were the chrome boxer hoops I should have awaiting me going home today. Its all good though. It means the car will have a slightly better appearance for the Highlander run in 2 weeks.

The pods on the MkII are removable and can be covered quite easily with any colour you like. I have just bought Tartan Red Leather from Newton Commercial who supplied my interior, when it arrives I will cut to shape and cover the pods using leather contact adhesive.

I second the comment on ensuring you get the Tweeter connectors, I was unable to source a supplier for those items.
Chris

Just found out that I've got the Monday off for the highlander, if I'd known I might have booked up.

I hope they don't get Tartan Red, mixed up with Red Tartan.

I might vandalise my car, and rip off my inner door trim, (Mk1, its just glued on???) and see how easy it is to recover it.

Paul, I only booked my room at the Lovat arms on Sunday. Im sure there are still rooms available.

You will get the number etc on the MG Events Page

I have a few friends in Inverness, and places to stay, I could always gate-crash at the last minute ;-)

LOL, i seem to be hijacking all the threads now.

When you fitting your roll hoops?

Gerry DC and I managed to fit the hoops. All went well and they look the biz. Unfortunately Victoria called to say all her door panels were marked so I will have to wait a few weeks until new stock comes available :-(

Just finished ripping out the zig zaggy panels from my mk 1 door.........One came off easily, the other had loads more glue holding it in place.

Now replaced with black leather..£6.00 for the leather and another £5 for the pot of glue.

Wasn't the easiest job I've ever done but ended well and looks great.
I pulled off the cloth and glued the leather to it ( I was going to use it as a template ~ but noticed the foam padding and liked the soft feel. )

The hard part was lining up the new panel ( contact adhesive ( solvent free doesn't melt the vinyl door )and pushing the edges into the recess.
I used a surgical scalpel handle ~ slim and rounded.

There was probably half an hou when I thought i was going to have to buy new door liners but kept going.

Very pleased.....
Grahame

Thanks for info Grahame, do you have any pictures?
