MG MGF Technical - mod chip

<sounds a little sus,>
Masterful understatement....! Put your bargepole away, and don't even bother to touch it...

The most frequent responses to questions about this sort of mod that I have seen are:

1. It is just a 2p resistor that they are flogging for a fiver, ie it's a total con.
2. It works by 'tricking' the ECU into thinking there is more cold air/oxygen coming in and therefore the engine overfuels. Without there actually being more cold air/oxygen, the engine runs rich, which can lead to the excess fuel washing the oil out of the cylinders (known as bore wash). This can be fairly catastrophic for the engine.
3. If the car manufacturers could get a reliable 25bhp out of their cars for a fiver, don't you think they would do it already?

HTH!

Ian Matheson

Bruce, don't do it. It really is a waste of time and money, and no power gains (and I mean absolutely NONE) are to be found from fitting it.

Ian explains the other reasons why you shouldn't bother with this resistor modification very well, so I'll not repeat it, but can only 100% agree with him.

In fact over fueling can rob power from an engine!

thanks for the feedback, the general description and details dont gel and as you have pointed out ian there will be more disasters just waiting to happen which any car owner doesnt need especially an f owner,thanks again bruce
