MG MGF Technical - More clutch trouble

I have 1 year old TF160. I have done 25k so far but I have noticed that sometimes when I pull away from a juction or the like the revs race and then drop back done as if the clutch is slipping. It does not do it all the time though. Any suggestions what could be the cause or is it going to be a new clutch. I assume this will be under warranty anyway.

Cheers

It sounds like clutch slip (unless Clelland has swapped gearboxes while you weren't looking). Unless a manufacturing fault is very obvious, I would be surprised if a clutch was a warranty item - I thought they were 'wear and tear'

Bugger, read page 132 of your Handbook, ancient & modern:

What is not covered? ... parts maintained as part of routine servicing, or fair wear and tear - e.g. tyres or frictional material such as brake linings (now the sticky bit) and clutch facings.

25k isn't a high milage but is roughly 3 times the national average for a 12 month old, non-rep, car.

Sounds like it's time to get the wee pursey out and spend some money I'm afraid.

Clutch slip due to wear is normally consistant at every take off.
Is this the actuating rod bearing seizing problem ??

It is now slipping whenever I accelerate. I will be severely p****d off it is not covered by warranty. I have never had a new clutch on any car (except my 32 year old MGB) and 25k is not a high mileage for a clutch. I will phone the dealer tomorrow morning.

Oh dear. A different scenario.
If the Dealer wants to remove the clutch, then I would want to be present when he does it as the next probability is oil leakage onto the clutch.
Good Luck.

Phew, it is covered by the warranty! But the good old AA wont take it to my chosen dealer from my house as it is 36 miles away. However, if I drive the car and it breaks down somewhere else then that is ok! Now, how do I get them to start my BGT which has been in it's humidity controlled sleeping bag all winter?

Alan

Now off to find a suitable place to break down!

Great result for the waranty.

Update; The clutch is apparently fine, it was only some lever or linkage that was seized. Now all that remains is to discover why the inside of the car and boot is soaking wet.

John that's next week.

Just you try, I'll be keeping my eye on you!
