MG MGF Technical - moss growing on my hood??

Moss/green algae seems to be growing on my hood, anyone know the best preperation to use to eradicate it and stop it recurring. Thanks.
jim kenny

Happens to the best of us Jim.

Buy a hood cleaner from any of AutoGlym, Renovo, Halfords; make sure you also buy the Reproofer at the same time (usually a packaged kit). Clean per instructions. Allow to dry. Reproof. Repeat twice a year.

<Reproof. Repeat twice a year>

One of these days I will do the Green Squirrel - nine years old and still original hood and not been reproofed but dont leak and aint green:-)

But it has always been garaged!
Ted Newman

??? and dry miles only Ted ??? :-)

and before you leap at me - I know you rode bikes in all weathers same as me.
JohnP

Apparently you actually get free moss on the hood with the 05 TF... I think its an improvement in their environmental approach... going green etc...

Ok.. shall I just leave now then? ;-)

Chris

ps. yes, definately go for the renovo hood cleaner (foam type) Jim.. its good... bought mine up really well.

Chris Tromans

I've recently reproofed my roof with Autoglym.

Is it still ok to wash the roof with the rest of the car with a good auto wash & wax or will this remove the proofing?

By the way. The water now beads up like water on a ducks back!! :o)

I'm not convinced of the merit of applying wax to a fabric roof. I have no real idea but the company that manufacture the fabric recommend a hoover off, simple shampoo clean (even Lux) followed by a light reproof.

JohnP

Cheers JohnP.

That's what I've been doing (just incase)

Just for those who don't have any green moss on the roof, where I live in the country the air is clean!

Not a child of the sixties then Chris.
Keith Richards

"I've never had a problem with moss accumalation"

Now do you get it?

Branko

Born in 1975 so nope... certainly not even a twinkle in my daddy's eye in the 60's :-)
Chris Tromans

Sorry Chris, the phrase is much older than you but my daughter, born in 1976, knew it.

The phrase "A rolling stone gathers no moss" has been explained as: "A person who never stays long in one place will never be encumbered by responsibilities. Conversely, the person who is on the move all the time will never accomplish much either. The proverb is based on the Latin: Saxum volutum non obducitur musco. It has been traced back to around the first century B.C. (Publilius Syrus). In 1546, it was included in John Heywood's book of proverbs. First cited in the United States in 1721 in 'A Word of Comfort to a Melancholy Country' by John Wise (1652-1725)." From "Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings" by Gregory Y. Titelman,1996).

AScholar

at least we know that Chris will take it in good spirit :-)

Latin? If I'd tried a bit harder I may have understood what was going on in Rome yesterday, inter alia.
JohnP

John... I shall be printing the thread out to revise for my exam on it later :-)

I knew my university had clearly missed out parts of my degree!
