MG MGF Technical - MOT failure - High CO

Hi.

I just came back from the MOT centre. The F sailed through everything except emissions. CO reads 5,3 and max is 0,3! Lambda value should read close to 1 and is reading 0.85.
1) Should this be it? Where should I buy it online?
2) The lambda sensor is the same thing as the O2 sensor?
3) May it be a dead catalist?

Thanks!

Valter.

The lamda/heated oxygen sensor is screwed into the manifold and measures the oxygen in the exhuast gases. It shows the ECU the air fuel mixture.
Its heated to ensure that it works from cold.

Valter,

Did the mechanic give the car a good run before tetsting the emissions?

Usyally, a good blast produces an improved reading.

Good luck!

I ran the car before MOT for 10 minutes. And no, I didn't rev it hard. At least beyond 3000 rpm. The test was done at 3200. And after idling for 5 more minutes we repeated at 3800rpm. Failed both.

I know that a hard drive would lead to better results, but I doubt that would reduce the value by 15 times!

Car is 8 years and 89k km (55k miles) on the odo.
Could a dead catalyst show a significant difference on the lambda value (0.85)?

Thanks, Valter.

Silly question but when testing emissions for the MOT , does it matter which exhaust pipe outlet is used ?

I had an F fail emissions once when one of the wires to the lambda sensor broke due to rubbing against exhaust manifold heat shield.
