MG MGF Technical - Mrk1 roof seems to catch

My p reg MGF has developed a roof issue, when folding it back it seems to jam, a couple of attempts and it goes down, I have sprayed with WD40 and has helped a bit but it feels like something stops it.

The roof is fine and no bars are bent damaged and nothing would suggest anything has been bent, I am gentle with it.

any suggestions would be helpful, anybody else had the same problem? too many joints to start messing around and it seems to be jaming on the passenger side.

Nigel

Hiya, yeah I've got the same problem with mine. Sorry I can't help you with a permenant fix as it's been like this since I bought it and I've never done anything about it, you have to pull it back up a bit and lower it really gently.

Hi guys

What you describe is probably hood "lock up". You'll find that the middle bar of the frame needs to be pulled towards the back of the car when you lower the hood if this happens. The hood should then go all the way down as expected. Mine sometimes suffers from this, and I think it's all to do with the way the elastic and wire tensioners stretch. There should be plenty of info in the archive if you're happy to search around. HTH.

They may not answer the hood lockup query but will answer almost everything else.

This is one of the reasons I think this board is great. Had the same problem, tried WD40 and 3-in-1 but little effect. Found the answer on here. Now I know to bring the middle bar down with one hand as I bring the front back with the other (taking care to avoid creases in the plastic window with my erm... other hand. Takes no more time and all falls smoothly into place.
Cheers, guys.

The two elasticated straps that were fitted to TF's with regards to a hood recall also had the benefit of fixing the hood lock-ups. Not very expensive so worth considering if the hood locking up now and then bugs you. ;-)

Sorry Paul, I get a bit confused with which site fixes which problem so try to mention them all. When you are as old as me you will also try to cover yourself ;-p
