MG MGF Technical - MS sunmate and storm cover.

Anyone know if they can they be fitted when the hood is already wet, or does this encourage mould etc?
thanks

How long are you planning on leaving it on Rich?

I put mine on when wet if I expect much more rain (like overnight) with no mould problems. Know people who put it on every night without exception.
JohnP

I'm off to sunny (ha ha) Ireland soon. So It'll be on for about 12-18 hours at a time, with a wet roof underneath.
Rich the optimist!

No probs. If you can avoid rain for an hour at 60 mph the roof will dry nicely.

If you want some extra protection get a bottle of Renovo preserver & waterproofer and give the rood a good seeing to before you go.

There are others on the market (and I have used some of them), I just say Renovo because they do a Black renovator rather than just a clear waterproofer. Makes the hood a nice, even matt black. Of course if, like me, you have a green hood then it doesn't really help much!

Richard, the covers are 'breathable' and the design allows air flow between the hood and cover so mould growth will not be a problem.HTH.

Thanks guys,

Now which one do I take...the sunmate...the stormcover.....mmm... S.Ireland = Stormcover ;-)

Gents, facing my second winter of F ownership a Sunmate appears to be a good investment - the prospect of 5 minute de-iceing every morning does not appeal - how practical is it to fit and store, and is it completely effective against winter's harshest frosts?
Paul Bevan

Paul

place over hood
elastics over mirrors
wipers hold down front
boot lid holds down back
you have a new male relative

Very soft material. In worst case, just bundle it up and drop it in the boot and worry about it later. Normally, take it off and give it a shake, fold almost neatly and but in boot. Heat of engine bay will soon melt any residual frost.

I tend to use mine overnight. In morning hang it on washing line to drip/freshen.

It can be used while the hood is down; usefull in hot weather while parked; also keeps gwano off the seats.

Well worth the small investment.

Thank you John - now where's my credit card....

so let me get this straight, the best frost protection device is the SUNMATE??

OK whose do you recommend? MS do one if I recall correctly?
Colin Ashworth

Colin

Can never remember what Mike calls each version. I have the one that covers the full hood, side windows and front & rear screens. Excellent protection at modest cost.
JohnP

The sunmate is Mikes name for it.

Also, it tends to discourage cats from sleeping on the roof.
