MG MGF Technical - MY 2000 MGF - Ignition wire

Does anyone know what colour the wire from ignition to starter motor is?

I am going to install a starter button but thought I would check first in case I do something wrong.

Thanks

Broon

If I am reading the wiring schematic correctly, white with red tracer :o)

Thanks Rob

I presume I can check this by disconnecting it and then trying to start. It wont do any harm will it?
I Brown

No, won't do any harm - other than not being able to start the car! :o)
Rob Bell

Thats one of them Rob, but I need ot know the other (i.e. one goes live on position 2 and the other goes on position 3 i.e to start the starter)

ANy idea as my car is in bits and the sun is going down

Thanks

I Brown

Sorry, this is coming a bit late for you, I guess that you've probably worked it out already, but the key cables are white/red for cranking, and black/yellow from the ignition "on" position...
Rob Bell

Thanks Rob,

I had narrowed it down to s smaller selection of wires, but your wires mentioned above match with some found on dieters site, so I am going to go with those.

Thanks alot

Will let you know how I get on with it tonight
I Brown

Nope, didnt work.

Tried a variety of wire bu no joy. Going to go past the multiplug that runs from ignition barrel and go for re/white and the brown/purple battery feed?

Not very helpful, but Pascal's beautiful S2000 starter button in situ: http://gallery.mg-rover.org/data/3095/690009.jpg

Hope these help :o)

Thanks Rob.

Everyone and everysite seemd to have different instructions and different suggestions for wiring.

IN the end I bought myself a new tester and within 5 mins had the answers. :)

I have made a web page for the process

Thanks again for your help Rob
I Brown

Look forward to seeing the final picture where you've retained the ciggarrette lighter illumination ring! :o)
Rob Bell

New pics are up Rob
I Brown

Nice :o)

How did you do the lettering?
Rob Bell

Good job Broon!

Sam
Sam Murray

Thanks Sam, Rob.

The lettering came as a transfer with the switch (2 in case you messed one up). :o)!!

I Brown

That's thoughtful of them! :o) Does the button illuminate?

Regarding the illumination ring around the starter switch, wouldn't it be better to put that on the same circuit as the interior illumination (rather than the instrument illumination)? That way, the starter button is always illuminated when you open the door, and slowly fades out... cool Bo)

I have seen various comments and read through the archives to see about the nonda start (S2000) button and love the pictures above in the yellow MG superb finish.

But I see 2 starters on ebay one with a big button and one with the proper honda button.

However the srchive says you need a dremel to modify the cage around the gear leaver as the honda button is very long. My concern is the width.

It says its 21mm for the standard cigar ligher but 28 mm for the honda button. Don't want to destroy the console making a lege hole as when go to sell would like to put back the cigar lighter.

So
a) is it possible to fit the proper honda button without damaging the colsole
b) any instructions on how to file or what ever to fit the honda button

Thanks

Brian

Pascal's instructions indicate that you can modify the Honda button - but I haven't seen any pictures on how to do this unfortunately.
