MG MGF Technical - MY 2000 query

Did all MY2000 Fs (with the body colour windscreen surround) have the steel cylinder head locating dowels?
Gordon Wisby

No, this modification came on line some months after the release of the MY2000 in November 1999. Dieter may have some better indication of approximately at what VIN number this was phased in?
Rob Bell

My car was first registered March 2001 and it didn't have them - it does now. Work that one out for yourself :-)
David Clelland

So a 2000 year F should have them, but mightn't?

Anyway, thanks both for your answers.
Gordon Wisby

From Dieter's Site:

>>1D527784 New cylinder head gasket introduced with steel dowels GUG702613 (March 2001) <<

Gordon,

THe MY2000 model was actually produced towards the end of 1999 and you'll see from the above that the new head gasket and steel dowels weren't introduced until March 2001. Check your VIN Number against the one above to see if your car was manufactured before or after the change. Mine just missed it, but now has the upgraded setup since I suffered a HGF just before Xmas.

When I said "some months", I didn't expect it to be as much as 14!!! Thanks for posting that David :o)
Rob Bell

Just to confirm as others have.

Mine is Feb 2001 registered and didn't have the steel dowels. Suffice to say that after a little cloud of steam incident it does now!
