MG MGF Technical - New collant leak

Had the car up on the ramps at tthe weekend replacing the CRP gaskets and cleaning up rust on the chassis and painting it up.

While I was under there I've discovered a new coolant leak that I've not read about on here before. It's coming from a small pipe/ hose at the front/ bottom of the engine. The hose in question is directly above the two pipes that run the length of the car from rad to engine.

As I said the hose is very small (4-5 inches and i seems to enter the cabin somewhere in the region of the centre tunnel.

It's not a major leak but I want to fix it asap. Anyone had this before or know of it happening

I also need to learn to type properly as it should say "Coolant" not "Collant".

I wasn't properly edumicated

Yep, classic leak inspireing the creation of hose clips from MS! The hose is the heater hose.

Bob,

My car almost 2 years old and only done 4,500 mostly dry miles.

I have noticed that the chassis and some suspension and engine parts are getting rusty.

How old is your car, and what do you use to paint the coroded parts?

Have you got a picture of it Bob? Sounds similar (if not as spectacular) to Ted's coolant hose failure: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/Treffen2003/day%205/day5_06.jpg

If not this one, then it could be the coolant bypass pipe leaking (a failure that Dave Livingstone has suffered with).

Seems that age-related failures are starting to kick in. Mine are 8 years old, and will therefore be replaced at the next service methinks...

That looks like it. It's the shorter one at the bottom that I think it's coming from. Anyone have a guide to replacing? I'm not sure if it's the hose or the clip thats away!

My car is a 97 and it's only done 27,000 miles although 21,000 of those miles were dry miles. My old man had the car before me and he never took it out in the rain plus he had painted all the underside of the chassis with a chassis paint he got from his work.

It's only in the last six months that I've had the car that its been out in the wet.

There was no major rust. Just a few spots here and there. I took a wire brush to it to remove the flaking parts then a copper brush to take it back to the bare metal then painted it up with the chassis paint. I'm not sure what kind it is as it's in a coffee jar!!!

I'm sure any car shop should stock some decent stuff and it's well worth keeping on top of it.
