MG MGF Technical - New tyres

My long serving Bridgestone SO2s are coming to the end of their life. Any suggestions for a good track tyre? I use my car for track days and some sprints.

I've yet to find a better tyre for the track and road (wet and dry) than Bridgestone S02s. I'd stick with them. Though I can hardly call mine long-serving, as I get through them in 10,000 miles.

Have you been to MGoT track days? If not check out www.mgs-on-track.com

Dave,

Where do you get your SO2's from? I looked last year for some and they have been discontinued so I bought Toyo Proxes T1-S's. Great tyres but not as good as the SO2's.

I need another set and have seen the Toyo Proxes CF1's and the t1-R's, has anyone tried either of them?

Thanks,

Nick

T1-R has a big following, I was astonished with wet and dry handling improvement after I fitted them at both ends AND had run them in.

Nick,

My local Merityres shop (http://www.merityre.co.uk/)can order them in no problem. In the past I've driven to Micheldever tyres (01962 774437), a large distributor who have the keenest prices, but Merityres can get close enough to the price for me to not bother any more.

I am talking about 16" tyres - the 15" were discontinued a long time ago. Also the smallest tyre they do is 205, so if you are wedded to 195 on the front then again SO2s aren't an option.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I have 15" Rims on my MK1 but I would really like the 16" ones off the MK2... Hmmmm? ;)

If anyone has any 16" alloys in good nick then I may be interested!

I would endorse the Toyo T1-R - have found them as good as the SO2s which I had previously.

I can't recomend the T1 R's highly enough for road and track BUT I have bitten the builit last year and purchased a road legal tyre for track days, Bridgestone RE55, just great.

I've got 3 and a bit set of rims for my F. I have Scudo Stunners on one set, Dunlop A539s on another and Maxsport RB5-F2s waiting to go on the third set.

Could also recommend Bridgestone RE720's. Superb. And second the Toyos. Toyos are the cheaper option if you're liable to get punctures!

If anyone in the North West is thinking of changing their 16" tyres I'm looking for a set of used ones for a set of spare wheels. The barest minimum of tread would be acceptable. Might even be some beer tokens involved too.
