MG MGF Technical - NewTF - questions

swapped my old and tired VVC F for a shiny 2 year old TF135 yesterday. Couple of points I noticed I thought I'd check out with you folks.

The TF is idling at almost 1000rpm, whereas the old F used to be around 800-850. Is this normal? seems a bit high to me

Also there is a "whirring" noise from the engine bay, sounds like a fan. Does the fan run al the time? seems unlikely, or could it be something else?

and finally, any one any idea where I can get a good 4 wheel alignment done near stockport?

thanks in advance
Colin Ashworth

Colin,

I swapped my 1.8 standard GF for 2 year old 135 and it idles at 800-850 so 1000 seems a bit high.

Don;t have the wirring either on my 135, its just the same as the mgf.

It's bloomin freezin here so wouldn't expect engine fan to come on

hope this helps

With reference to the wheel alignment check, go to Cheadle Hulme Tyre & Exhaust, they do laser alignment.
It is opposite the Kenilworth pub in Cheadle Hulme.

Think the whirring is the steppermotor, and is normal. My TF has always done it.
Thinks.
Thats if its a quiet high pitched noise, if its the fan, it sounds like, err, a fan going like the clappers.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what is the Steppermotor??

I hope you haven't got the problem I had! Bought a new (2004) TF 135 and later noticed the symptoms you describe - high and irregular tickover, coolant fan running continuously. Turned out the main ECU was corrupted.

You will have to wait for one of the Gurus to explain if you want the full technical bit!!, but I think that basically it acts as an anti-stall device on the throttle, governing tick-over and throttle response. If you go on Rob Bell's or Deiter's sites, there's loads of stuff on there to help you spec-up.

Bob thanks for that, I live 5 minutes away from there.

Ive booked it into Mike Satur next week, few minor issues to be looked at, hopefully minor anyway :)

Bought it from a non rover dealer, so MS has suggested it may just need setting up correctly

..... heres hoping :)
