MG MGF Technical - no spark?

hi ,1997 mgf just conked out, friendly a,a man suggests no spark , had new coil + plugs+ diss cap last year , any suggestions would be most appreciated,

How had the car been running before the 'conk out'? If an MPi engine, then as a '97 vintage, it will have a dizzy and rotor arm. Common for these to eventually fail - see more here: http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/common_problems/distributor/stuttering.htm

Hope this helps

Did the AA man try turning the engine over with the distributor cap removed? The shaft the rotor arm mounts on is glued into the end of the camshaft, and the glue can fail, which will definitely result in 'no spark'...
bandit

i think the a.a just diagnosed that it was getting fuel, dont think he wanted to delve to deep,(engine location puts them off a bit).will investigate the rotor arm tomorrow, many thanks

I've come across that type of failure once Bandit - wouldn't necessarily think that it is a likely scenario here, but certainly easy to check out! :o)

hi ,thanks for all the suggestions, turns out was a faulty connection to the coil pack, seems to be fine, the joys of an elderly mgf.
