MG MGF Technical - noisy rattling door

Hi. Sure this is not new to the forum. Noisy to my right. Thought it was the hood not fixed properly when had new engine installed, but when I push the door (from the inside it stops). Not sure if this is the window or door trim or the door not closing properly.

Need to take car out and check all 3 separately. had this problem last year and when window open wasn't so bad. It disappeared but has now returned. So has anyone any quick ideas for me to try before i remove door trim and look inside :-)

Janine, I have the same problem. First I thought as you did that the hood was the culprit but no, it seems to be the door catch...maybe? Adjustment required. I will report back when I've had a go at adjusting, greasing, swearing etc.
Mark H Williams

I had this problem on my 1997 VVc, you will find that the rubber stops in the door jamb are threaded, just wind them out until the door shuts tightly against them, solved my problem, hope it works for you, Cheers Alan

Thanks for this guys, will report back when I've played with my rubber stops.....

How are your rubber stops !? Unscrewed mine, worked but.... fell off. So that's my problem. MGOC here we come.
Mark H Williams

OK, So I now have new rubber stops but still have rattle. Suspect door catch requires adjustment...maybe. Any advice please. Janine, How are your rattles doing?
Mark H Williams

Hi Mark,

Is the door flush with the panels when closed? If not, then the door catch needs adjustment. If not, open the door slightly and try and lift the door from the rear. Can you feel any up and down play. If so, then you will need to have the hinges re-bushed. Mike Satur sells some stainless steel sleeves to rectify the wear.

Thanks Mr Fixitt,
Will try tomorrow..Thanks for info,

Anyone have a part number for the rubber stops, I cant find them on the MGOC site?
Eric Martin

Eric
Try Mike Satur's site. Think he does them. Or make them out of stool feet rubbers! Worked for me.
Mark H Williams

Hi, sorry for being quiet for last few weeks (unlike my door rattle...)

I tried the rubber stops and it seemed to work a bit, but I think the noise is actually coming from where the hood meets the top just behind the door, and that it is slightly better when the window is open; maybe something is rattling between the window and hood metal strips holding it all down? The door itself is not loose and is flush with the side of the panel.

I'm still confused!
JANINE ELLIOT

My noise has returned..have a set of Mike Satur's door hinge bushes to fit[waiting for instructions] and then if required I'll try window stops. Janine, your problem seems, maybe, to be the same....window stops.
Mark H Williams

Thanks Mark, I will check out his site.
