MG MGF Technical - Nuts, nuts and wheels

Tried to get the front wheel of my (second hand) vvc
today for the first time. Nuts came off but I could not get the whel off the hub. Any tips? Anyone else had this problem?

Also I recall its worth slightly smearing nuts with copper (?) grease. True?
GJ

I removed mine by banging the tyre with a soft plastic headed mallet also rocking backward and forward.

once off it is a good idea to smear in copper grease to prevent further sticking :0)

*g* does that grease-guy over there still forget to do his job ?
Mine from the 1999 made were pre-grease on the left only. The right hand stuck from rust.

Please notice and do not apply to much grease !
Under heat it may creap to the brake disks.

GJ,
try loosening the nuts.. then drive a few meters.. and try to remove the tyre again. it worked for me once before.

regards.

GJ,
I had the same problem. Try putting a large block of wood on the inside of the tyre and hitting it from underneath with a large hammer whilst rotating the wheel whilst jacked a couple of inches off the ground. Also put some grease on the inside part that fits up against the hub

Thanks.
The local tyre place squirted wd40 into the studs and between the wheel and hub. Then used a rubber mallett to knock the wheel from behind. Easy. I'll know next time ! Lucky I sorted it, rather than find out with a flat tyre on a dark wet night.

Common problem with Alloy wheels and steel hubs, the two metals bond together ... something to do with ion bonding?? wasnt good at chemistry!! anyway they stick together.

Liberal smearing of copper grease will do the trick, once youve got them off!!

My wheels come off once a year to give them a good clean, then the hub gets some grease as doo the wheel nuts.
