MG MGF Technical - Oh eck....

Erm, bit of a problem. After our clutch repair we needed to re-enter the code for our radio, My other half being slightly impatient entered what he thought was the code, three times (!? yes I know, turns out he was putting in the code for his old radio! Honestly men & instructions, @ least he isn't to proud to ask for directions!)

What we (he) didn't realise that having done this you have to leave the radio for an hour with out turning it off!? - does that mean that you have to sit with the engine running for an hour - & now we can not clear the CODE WAIT message. Horners Mitsubishi nee MGR won't advise how to clear it over the phone & want to charge us to 'run a diagnostic' on the radio?

Personally I think this is a load of rubbish so I wondered if anyone knew how to clear it.

Thanks

You'll have to wait the hour Sally.

You won't need the engine running but will probably have to leave radio powered up - what does the manual say?

Can't be long to go now ;-)

Radio is always powered - other wise it'd loose the code... Oops.

Anyway, the point is you don't need to leave the engine running. Just remove the key from the ignition, go off, put the kettle on, make a nice brew, and return after the hour to re-enter the correct code :o)

Thanks ;-). Feel a bit daft but nevermind... I had wondered if just disconnecting the battery would clear it but having had a recent experience of 'unplugging' things, namely my PC with fairly disasterous consequences I (we) thought it best not to! The manual states not to turn the stereo off whilst CODE WAIT is displayed. D'oh too late.

Right, I'll get the kettle on.

Cheers

Ah. Sounds as though you need to leave the ignition on position II whilst you're brewing the tea from that description Sally... :o/

Sorted! Silly us! I suppose we should assume that judging by Horners response to the problem now that they are no longer MGR dealers they are going out of their way to PO MG owneers. Our car is certainly not going anyway near there anymore. I just hope that they call up to remind us there is a service due soon so we can tell them in no uncertain terms why we won't be using them.

They have been doing that for few years now!!

Shame you fixed it as I was on the edge of my seat to see what the "'run a diagnostic' on the radio" was going to be and how much they could possibly charge for having a cuppa just like you! :)
