MG MGF Technical - oil filler reservoir? come away in my hands...

Was just about to check my oil and noticed the oil filler reservoir (if thats what you call it!) had come away from the mount.
BUT then I pulled the dipstick out and the whole thing came away from the pipe that connects it to the engine, so in short I have the whole thing just sitting in the boot.....

Does anyone know if this is going to be a huge job ? expensive....?? (obviously sitting in doors now unable to run it to the garage...)

Thank you in advance for any advice.

sorry should have also added , i know you can remove the tank ,buts its the thin pipe that leads to the engine which has snapped away ? (so I have a piece with me)

can you drive to a garage like this ?!??!

Similar problem on my 2001 F. But the metal tube on
mine is still in place. Put a plastic hosepipe over it reaching to the height of the old oil reservoir and
secured it to the engine block with duck tape.Stuck the dipstick in it, Has been like that for 5,000 miles
now (including 14 days travelling around Europe). No
problem until you come to put the oil in. Meant I had
to take the main lid (inside the cab) off to do it,
but gave me a chance to nose around the engine bay
to check on other bits and pieces.

The stupid thing is that I have had the reservoir unit
for a couple of months (from Brown & Gammons). The
only thing they didn't provide was the bolt that
secures the unit to the engine block (I'm not talking
about the bracket bolts). This part of the engine
block is some type of plastic and it looks like the
thread is stripped, because no way can I bolt it to
the block, Some members have suggested securing it
with aroldite, etc., but the heat of the block means
it doesn't stay secured long. If anyone can tell
me the simplest way to secure this reservoir, I would
be pleased to hear from you.

And D.J. if you are not losing oil, then I would
risk taking it to your local Brown & Gammons Garage
which is not to far away if you live in Herts.

Bil - Tap a larger thread or possibly 'Helicoil' inserts?

Most appreciated, will have a look at that.

In this situation, a bit of epoxy resin adhesive is your friend ;o) Had something very similar 3 years ago - the filler pulled out of the mount. Epoxied it back and all's been fine since :o)

If the whole assembly has fallen off then you have a bit more work: has the dip stick pipe fractured? In which case, you may need a new filler assembly :o(
