MG MGF Technical - OIL TEMP??

Hi all,
Just wanted to know what temp oil gauge should be reading? as mine is showning between 120-135 if on a hard drive and about 120 on normal driving.
Does this sound ok or do i have a blockage on the oil cooler?

ps,tyre psi for 1.8 2000 mgf..does anyone know the correct psi?

Many Thanks Stevie.
STEVIE

Well, I suppose it depends on the wheater, here in Spain, summer, on hard driving my TF 1800 went so frecuently beyond 150 degrees that i had to install a mocal laminova oil to water exchanger.

It works really well, temp is always 1 mm below 120 on normal driving, and more or less 1 mm beyond 120 (135, as the car name???) on hard driving.

At least 20 degrees less than it used to be!!!

About tyre presures, not sure, bc on tf rear wheel increased a lot the presure (1.8 bar front and 2.5 rear)

For MGF I think I remember something as 1.8 front, 1.9 rear. or similar, but not sure, sorry. Also I use bars, not psi, but sure there are conversion pages enough to solve this!!!

The oil temp sounds about right, my TF is normally just below 120.

26psi front, 28 rear seems to ring a bell for an F(TFs are higher for the rear)

Your car does not have an oil cooler (unless after market fit)

As said above oil temp sounds about right. If you have 15" wheels the tyre pressures should be 26/28 psi and if you have 16" wheels it should be 24/28psi. In the unlikely event that you have a Trophy then it should be 24/36psi.

The MGF normally reads around 90 degrees oil temperature - around 2000 there was a batch of faulty oil gauges or senders which gave high readings - some got them changed others had a mod done that corrected them.

Mine always reads 90 unless driven VERY, VERY hard for a long time - such as on the Nürburgring or the German Autobahn then it can go as high as 135.

I would not rely to much on the accuracy of the temperature gauge. Apart from the batch Ted mentions there are various readings but all in between 90 as the lower and 120 as the "higher" standard level. Depending on driving style and external temperature.

The mentioned 2000 batch had a 170 deg reading within 3 minutes after starting the engine. I would not be scared with any reading at the left hand side of the scale while driving a warm or hot engine. Oil should be capable of about 150 deg C constant checking that temperature needs a bit better gauge as the 1 pound store indicator (and resistor) mounted.

Advised tyre pressure is relatively low on the MGF. You might be able to feel handling differences with various pressures. On my '96 with standard 15" wheels and tyres, powerflex and lowering pins I use a bit more air for better handling.
Be aware differences between left and right should be avoided.
