MG MGF Technical - Oil temperature light

Has anybody replaced the bulb in the oil temperature gauge? If so, please please give me a very simple step by step guide as I am not that technical. What type of bulb is required and what spec?
Thanks to all "F eeeers" who reply. Weather back to crap at this moment!

I believe you prise out the air vent above the centre console this gives you access to the back of the dials remove the offending bulb and take to the nearest motor factors, Halfords, garage to get a spare and replace.

Its as easy as that.

However,

I have just taken a look and it is only as easy as that for the clock, I cant seem to find an external bulb for the oil temp gauge so it must be inside the gauge itself. Do you have an MGF or TF because I think the gauges are different.

I know the back comes off the TF gauge but it is held on with Torxx screws and you would need to remove the centre console to gain access to it. The centre console is held in place with clips and I am sure Rob Bell or SF will have instructions on their sites for removal of it.

I have a TF gauge in the garage I will take it apart later and see what type of bulb is inside.

Chris,

I am not having much luck. I have removed the Torxx screws from the TF gauge but nothing comes apart, it looks like the black circle cover might prise off but I don't want to damage my gauge. I'm afraid I am stuck on this one and I dont have a MGF Gauge to check.

I am sure someone else will be along today but remember it is a bank holiday so responses are slow because everyone is out roof down driving.

Good luck

I'm pretty sure that the MGF oil gauge uses a conventional press in bulb Chris - are you using TF items now? Not got time to have a look now, but may have a gander when I get back from HK next week.
Rob Bell

Hi Rob,

I changed over to silver gauges when I upgraded to my Mk II console, however, the TF clock and Oil gauges that came with it are completely different to my original 98 gauges and don't have push in bulbs, the loom connectors are different too. I am at a loss to find how to access the Oil gauge inners because there doesn't appear to be any access unless you prise off the outer black ring. This may cause damage to the gauge and I dont want to attempt it.

Chris do you know which gauges you have.
