MG MGF Technical - Oil useage

Please can owners advise what normal oil consumption should be on a three year old F with average miles, currently doing 800-1,000 per month?

Very little! I put half a litre in on Sunday AM which was the first since it was seviced 2000 miles before.

Like Ted says, hopefully very little.
However, I don't think any dealer would be interested unless consumption is much greater than 1 litre every 1000 miles.
Do you think it's burning the oil, or is it losing it via leaks ?

Steve,

I don't think that it's burning oil as there is no blue smoke, grey smoke occasionally but not blue. I'm not sure re the leaks but there is nothing on the drive and the engine seems clean.

I shall keep my eyes on the oil level!

14 months on and 17,000 miles later, my F has not used one drop of oil!

I expected to go through a litre or two during running in, but no, not a drop.

Am a very happy chappy!

My F, which is now nudging 145k, uses about 4 litres between services and has from the day I bought it. According to Beadles in Gillingham this is within the design specification for the engine.

My 96 vvc with 56k on the clock uses about 1 litre every 2000miles. No sign of smoke from the exhaust and no leaks

98R 31000 miles - used none in the last 5K

checked the oil regularly in my old 96VVC and in 6 years I never once had to put any in between services. Which reminds me, must check the oil in the TF and see how much that is using

Haven't used any yet in 16,000 miles on my 2001 VVC.

Interesting though that the Alfa Spider I had a few years ago used about a litre every 750 miles over the 85,000 miles I had it. Wasn't leaking or smoking, so I've no idea where it was going! Gets a bit expensive though on sythetic oil...
