MG MGF Technical - old mini ( NFC )

Does the last Rover mini cooper have the A series engine in it and if so are they any good ? Could a K series fit in there ?
steve

I don't believe you can fit a K series engine and gearbox into the 'classic' mini. I believe the A series was in all minis.
However, an MGF engine may well fit in the back - an early prototype used a metro van with the engine in the back (middle). Perhaps you could even get a KV6 in there - bit like the Renault Clio V6.

Are the last Coopers any good ?
I prefer the original coopers - you can (re)build a classic mini now with some major benefits (1960s emission rules etc)
Steve

Yes and not easily, but there are many tuning co's offering many things - including an S2000 engine!

Is that in the front of the Mini ?
Even the Hayabusa engines ones I've seen have the engine in the back (mind you, twin hayabusa engines with sequential shift on both could be interesting - 350BHP 4WD in a mini !)
Steve

Yep, but there was some essential streatching of bodywork both forwards and sideways.

The V-Tech conversions is gaining popularity now, fits into a Clubman fronted mini without any body hacking, BUT does require a custom subframe. These cn be bought these days and don't require home fabrication though.

Yeah it's the Clubman that can take the K16engine the original is tight enough with an old A series.

there must be somebody out there who has fitted a bke engine or something similar at the front

but just check out this nutter!!

I will find out this weekend hopefully !

We have a Mini turn up at our ER meets quite regularly, it has an 1800 V-TEC engine in the front.

The bodywork of the car has had to be extended 3" in the engine bay forwards, this is the only modification made here. Externally you would be hard pushed to spot the extension, the only real giveaway is the angle of the bonnet line.

The engine work however is a bit of a bdge job, although it does work extremely well. The radiator for instance is secured off centre with cable ties and the overflow pipe empties into an old coke bottle! But despite this, the car has proved reliable and is unbelievably quick.

The only thing we had that could keep up with it was a Lotus 340 R and this struggled!!

The last time he was here, he gave a couple of our other members a run up the bypass, our vantage point (pub car park) is a little above the road and all we could see was a union flag flying passed above the central reservation at warp factor 9 :-)
