MG MGF Technical - Overheating

Hi

Coming into work this morning my temperature needle was rising when I was standing still. I have had this problem before and it turned out to be an airlock.

My problem is that I am going to a customer site tomorrow (in portsmouth) and Im in Luton and I can't get the car in till thursday.. apart from checking the water level is there anything else I can do before then?

Cheers,

Chris

Mine was the same, just keep an eye on the temp gauge in traffic; mine was due to a fan failure as the garage so technically put it.

Remember the heater is another way of cooling the engine. If poss, leave early (when it's cooler). Can then take your time coming back. Obviously, travelling slower (so again, leave early) keeps the engine cooler.

Check the fan fuses, ther whould be one for the engine bay and one for the cooling fan

This sounds exactly like a non-operation of the radiator fan, Chris.

This can be caused by:
1. Failed fan
2. Blown Fuse
3. Failed ECU temperature sender.

The commonest of these is the the temperature sender. It is also extremely easy and cheap to replace (10 quid from your local MGR dealership). Had exactly this problem with my car (also noticed a slightly higher than expected warm idle, and higher fuel consumption, as the ECU was fooled into thinking that the engine was cold, where the temperature guage showed that it clearly was not).

Instructions for this can be found at http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/hgf_pages/related_problems_overheating.htm
