MG MGF Technical - pezzo sounder under dash.

There is a pezzo type of sounder going off under the dash at most bumps in the road but has once or twice gone off when the car is not moving.

I have had a problem with the door locks but have now corrected it and all electrics work ok even the alarm test works find.

As i cannot tell which modul the sound come from it.s hard to fault find.

I have cleaned all the earth headers.

The only thing i can think of is the drivers door barrel contacts have not been used by the last owner and as the batterys were flat i had to use the key
Thats my next step.

Just for info the passenger door lock was just rust on the drive motor shaft clean and lubricated worked fine micro switch also checkedout ok.

One other possibility is a wire chaffing under the dash, allowing the sounder to earth as you go over bumps. This is a real heart-sink, as trying to find the point of earthing is not a quick-fix solution :o( Let us know when you've fixed it! :o)

The sounder may be the one located inside the MFU (multi function unit)

Function rlated to alarm system:

The module is located behind the fuse panel.
Mind you, the MFU is involved in several other electrical ciruits like indicators, hazard light, fog light etc.

Thanks for your feed back on my problem.
As an update at the weekend i took the dash apart an tye wraped any cables which did not have any protection.

As i am working the alarm is going off with out the key in the car and every thing else off just the car battery connected.

The sound can be produced by a slap to the gearbox tunnel or the side of the dash.

There has been a slight emprovement by my action but it still it goes off now and again.

I have not done the door barrel connections but looking at the drawings they do seem to end up as an input to the multifunction unit.

Thanks Again Roger

Well this is a bit of a story after removing all the fuses on the car the sounder was still going so i disconnected the battery did this stop it no.

So with all the dash out and the fuse panel as i was doing the upside down bit to get under the stearing wheel i had to move the inside box of the arm rest low and behold off goes the sounder.

I am a shift worker and comming home off night shift if i feel a bit tired i have this thing which fit over your ear so if you nod off and your head moves just a small angle the alarm goes off and stops you falling to sleep it's a bit like a blue tooth to look at.

What must have happened is when i bought the car three weeks ago on the second day i moved all my bit and bobs into the new car and it must have got switched on in the move.

(The End) Thanks again for all your input to my self inflected problems it been a short sharp learning curve on MGF electrics.
Regards Roger

LOL! Well, another mystery solved Roger. Glad it wasn't anything wrong with your nice new car! :o)
Rob Bell

LOL, a quick way to find out how to take apart the car and put it back together again :-o
next time if the car begins to squeak, take the hamster and cage out of the car first before trying to find the problem.
