MG MGF Technical - Phoenix exhaust on a TF160?

Has anyone fitted a Phoenix exhaust on a TF160 yet?

Both myself and Paul (Lathwell) are thinking of getting this done to our cars but wondered if anything special needs to be done with regards to the valve/flap arrangement in the RHS pipe before or during fitting?

Comments please :o)
Sue.

Can't comment on the Phoenix on a TF160 as I haven't got a TF nor a Phoenix exhaust! But plenty of folks around who have one or the other - maybe both? - and frankly, the lastest version of this exhaust seems to be an absolute cracker - sounds wonderful.

Regarding exhaust installation on a TF160, there isn't anything special to consider. Just disconnect the drive-by noise regulation flap and forget about it :o)

Rob...there was lengthy discussion on this a while back, including how to disconnect solenoid - have checked archives and can't find it now. Can you refresh our memories of how to do this, please?

Sue, yep Victoria fitted one ok to a TF160 that they sold at The MGF Centre last year.

I did this on my TF135 and you can just reach in the engine bay on the drivers side to disconnect - nicer noise and matching colour tail pipes! http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/TF_evc.htm

What a stupid thing to fit to a car and what a waste of time. Dealers should offer to disconnect this pile of poo for no charge when you buy one!

Tonight I went looking for this gizmo on my TF. It looks like the regulations here in NZ don't require it to be fitted, as it is missing, and both of my tail pipes work as expected from cold. Yay!

However, they have just passed a law requiring all vehicles exhaust systems to be no louder than they were when the car was new. How many people in the testing stations would have any idea how loud a 1969 MGB sounded when it was driven out of the dealers showroom 35 years ago? !!
