MG MGF Technical - Power hood brackets

The brackets fitted to the hood (that the rams push) keep bending.

Does anyone know if there is any way to stop these brackets bending, or has anyone come up with a different bracket arangement.
Keith

I presume they are "flat strips of steel".

Could you replace them with T-shaped or L-shaped (angle iron) steel instead that would be much more resistant to bending? Maybe try a blacksmith's to see if they have anything suitable - you'd probably have to get the ends cut down to fit whatever they connect to, but it should stop bending in the middle...

Not many people here have power hoods, though I get the impression that bending is such a common problem that MGR discontinued the option (or they did because not enough bought it...). They MAY have reintroduced it, so it might be worth looking into any improvements they've made to the system and seeing if it can be retro-fitted...

I wondered about the power hood mentioned on one of the brochure bits I saw. Never seen it anywhere else though. Didn't even realise that you could get one until about four weeks ago...

I seem to recall its still an option on the TF...

one question...
How lazy can you get!

anyway - i'm sure this has been mentioned here before - a quick search in the archives should turn somethihng up.

I think the bendy strips problem is indeed why the power hood was withdrawn - even if it was subsequently re-introduced. Neil's L or T idea sounds good, if they'll actually fit in the space!

Hood still available and spare brackets can also be purchased after I created hell after mine bent.No way was I going to buy a brand new power hood just to replace the bent brackets.

By the way they bend because the kit is being incorrectly fitted (per Rover!). Bollocks - everyone with this hood appears to have this problem after a year of use.So maybe its the instructions, poor engineeers or all those of us are not interpreting the instructions correctly?

Buy as spare part.

Julian,
Got to disagree with you I'm afraid. I had my power hood for nearly 3 years and never had any problems with it. Maybe I was just one of the lucky ones. I was very tempted to have it fitted to my new TF but couldn't justify the price considering how easy the hood is to put up and down manually, but I must admit I do miss it when I'm stuck in traffic and I want to quickly put the roof up or down.
