MG MGF Technical - Power steering failure :-(

Hi guys and gals,

Me car is sick :-(

Last night warning light came on for the power steering - its completely gone and Its like trying to drive a tank!

Also the speedometer is registering no speed.

Mike has suggested its the cable to the speedo which has failed. Anybody got any other ideas or experience of this? Hope its a relatively easy fix and not too expensive - just before Xmas - please noooooooooooooooooooo!

Cheers

Yup speedo cable snapped, the PAS uses a signal from the speedo to work out how fast you are driving and alter the assist accordingly.

Fiona, fortunately an easy peasy fix. See http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/Speedo_cable/index.htm for some instructions.

Almost inevitably, it will be the rear section of cable - the section that runs to the gearbox - that will have failed.

Merry Christmas! :o)

Yep it is the cable indeed.

A relatively inexpensive fix thankfully.

Happy Xmas to meeeeeeeeeee
