MG MGF Technical - power steering query
If youve read the thread on lowering an MGF you'll see i got into a spot of bother, by letting it down too low,so today i took it to a little garage and got the system pumped up, told him to fill it up then when i got home id let it down to a 'sensible' height so that i wasnt feeling every bump in the road. so, that done i drove home. I instantly found that the steering felt alot lighter, i put this down to the car not being as low. Then about 5 miles into the journey the power steering and the speedo went off and the warning light for the steering came on. hoping that somehow it had fused and they were both on the same fuse i finished off the jouney. when i got back i let some liquid out of the hydro gas system, as the garage had set it far too high, drove off and the power steering and speedo came back on?!?!? Any ideas what was going on? Cheers Gary. |

Possibly dislodged the connector for the speedo cable which is under the black plastic cover under the bonnet. Might want to twist it to make sure it is tight. (Or leave it alone as it's currently not broken!! :o) P. |

>Possibly dislodged the connector for the speedo cable Hmm, should be clear visible cause the whole speedo would not work. Anyway, strange case, but for sure NO direct relation to the lowering. I had something nearly similar after works at the pedal assy the other day. Fitted aluminum replacements for the rubber shoes on the pedals. Started the engine and *surprise* the EPAS warning light came off. Swithched the engine of, on again, same light remained off. Steering worked hard. I thought, now what have I damaged again and started driving. After 2 minutes the light the EPAS light got dark. No more problem since two days. I assume I touched the wiring of the steering column and connectors to the EPAS motor or torque sensor while working down in the footwell in any way ? Dunno, but the EPAS light doesn't come off by coincidence. Regards Dieter <- confused |

I agree with Paul - the speedo cable runs in the same vicinity as the hydragas bleed valves - under that shroud panel. As the cable is more than one length screwed end on end, its probably become a bit loose, and the drive cog disloadged. Check that the cables are fully home as Paul says... ... or if it ain't broke, don't fix it! |

i stand by that moto. Just a bit odd i thought for both to happen at the same time. |
