MG MGF Technical - prepare for lift off

ok only a small problem here, but an annoying one nontheless.

if on occasion i find its sometimes necessary to exceed the speed limit, an annoying thing happens.

my windscreen wipers, lift up, and are no longer in close contact with the windscreen, and smear rather than clear the water of the screen.

anyone else have this problem?

any solutions? (besides driving more slowly ;-) )

RainX, it clears the screen as water doesn't stick very well @about 30mph it runs off upwards, smaller droplets require higher speeds.
Disadvantages are as it wears off the screen smears more easily- solution, apply another coat!!
Do not use on the inside as it make the screens mist more easily.

Just to let you know you're not the only one having this problem. However, I don't have a solution.

Get the wipers with the spoiler over the blade.

Bosch do a set for about £12.

When you find it nessesary to drive at high speeds the force of the wind traveling over the windscreen pushes the wiper blade onto to windscreen.

Excellent...

But don't fit them on backwards , the lift generated at high speeds could effect the handling of the car and make the front very light!!

Am I missing something - but my *F* has a spoiler fitted to the blade and it is original equipment - and it works.

Ted,
Yep..
But sometimes when getting the car the serviced they replace the spoiler jobbies with cheaper non-spoiler jobbies, hence the problem, if you didn't realise the spoiler type jobbies were on it before the service.

;-)

Wipe that Bosch of yer face

Yep, happened to me. Dealership replaced wipers sans spoiler and on the Nurburgring (and no where else), at 100 mph plus the drivers' side wiper lifts completely off of the windscreen!

Halfords (amazingly) do some pretty good blades (with spoiler).

Or you could get one of those clip-on plastic jobs, and get it in a colour to match the car. And get a set of matching rubber booties for the bottom of the wiper mechanism.

Nah, I didn't think so either.

Actually, in my old Cavaier, I had a set of double wiper blades (two wipers together, making 4 wipers in total on the front). Did a fantastic job of shifting the water. Took me ages to find it though, but they may still be available somewhere. Came with the rubber booties and the useless flaps for free.

Where can I get those rubber booties and what are they anyway?

And, do I have to get the dealer to fit the useless flaps?

The spoilers are a 'Trico' Product and should be available from Trico at Pontypool in the Uk. I work atTrico here in Melbourne, we assemble the spoilers on GMH vehicles going to the Middle East. I have often wondered why, it can't rain very heavily there.
