MG MGF Technical - Pumping up the suspension

Do you pump it up from the front or the back?

Under bonnet, behind plastic bulkhead cover are the hydagas valves,... one for left hand side (front to rear), and the other for errr... well the right!!!..

And you put fluid in it instead of air.... just saying that as it won't be the first one to get the system pressurised with air. (hydragas = hydra is the thing that can get in and out of the system, gas is locked inside the spheres and if everything is fine, it will stay there for ever).

Gareth, instructions on altering ride height on your MGF here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/suspension/howto_lower.htm

Good luck

Had a friend help me pump it up today. After 10 years it had made a gradual downwards sink towards the floor with the resultant poor ride and lack of ground clearance.

Didnt pump it up to a set pressure just made it about 1 1/2 higher all round, maybe a little more and made sure it was level. The car now drives superbly, ride quality is 10x better, handling feels more predictable and the steering is lighter, not bad for £0!!

I've just had mine pumped up too. It was just about riding on the bump rubbers and the tyre rubbed on the wheel arch on full lock. It is now transformed. My garage bod, who had never pumped an MGF before, but has done hundreds of Metros, told me that the reason they sink is because the gas gradually escapes and the fluid pushes up the diaphragm from below to fill the void. Hence more liquid is needed to keep the height the same. Although the loss of the gas will affect the ride a bit, he said it is not enough for most people to notice. He also takes absolutely no notice of the pressure, but simply pumps until the ride height is correct.

Interestingly, I had checked the tracking using my Trackrite gauge just a few days before this was done, and although the track, both front and rear, was within limits, it wasn't spot on. It is now.
