Hi all,

As some of you may know my water pump pulley fell off today and put a neat hole in the cam cover and turned my head into a lump of useless metal!!

I need to know of anyone who has had a good head rebuild done on their car, by who and how much they paid???!!!!!

Mike S charges 675.00 for a clubman head exchange claimed 150bhp

is easier.

Anyway, what a strange damage.
Find me impressed. :(

Can't help with recommendations, but I think a standard repair with original parts will be more expensive ?
Dieter

THANKS FOR THE LINK DEITER WILL UPDATE THIS AFTER MY SHOPPING EXPEDITION TOMORROW!!!

Good grief!

Sorry Rick :o(

I presume that you've suffered valve/ cylinder impacts as a result of loosing the pulley?

Hopefully the bottom end of the engine will have survived - but only an inspection will be able to resolve this :o(

I am pricing up a TF 135 conversion have had £1500 from victoria fitted and a mgr person in Birmingham £1100 fitted so looking very expensive at the mo
R P Earle

Ouch.

Rick, what are you asking for exactly? New engine, fitted, or just a new bare engine?

There are a number of ways you can tackle this particular problem - and if you want to go the TF135 route, then bear in mind that a TF135 head is identical to a standard, late MPi head - it's just the cams that are different.

Rob,

The problem as i see it is that I could spend £800 on a new head and fitting etc, if the old head has damaged the linings which i may not discover until it is back together and when it is still not right.

I have been advised by several places that it is easier to fit a new unit.

The newest unit non VVC that will go in my 95f with no managment/wiring changes is the 135 im told.

Hence why im pricing a 135 engine swap.

Does this make sense to you or am i barking up the wrong tree???

You're barking up the right tree Rick - that would be the way that I'd advise you to go too. And yes, a TF135 will bolt straight in without any need to alter wiring - but you will need to put a distributor drive into the end of the inlet cam. Straightforward enough - this is what I've got on my TF135 cams ;o)

Is the 1500 quid quote for the engine fitted? If we're talking about a nearly new engine, then I think this represents reasonable value for money.
Rob Bell

yes both the 1500 and 1100 are fitted, the dizzy drive is just a case of removing the blank isn't it????
R P Earle

Remove the blanking plate - two bolts, and tap in the distributor drive spiggot. It needs to be aligned correctly on the cam or else the spark will fire at the wrong time, but it doesn't need to be precise to the nth degree.

I am sure that the specialists you've already talked to will be able to handle the job perfectly well.

If engine replacement is the way you're planning to go forward, I can find a good home for the scrap engine... :o)
