MG MGF Technical - radiator
I've replaced the radiator of my '98 MGF yesterday because he was very bad. 30% of the ribs were gone. Is this normal? A radiator in 4 years? (I had a cooling problem.) Allard |

Hi Allard, Not much info about this all in the Archive. Only Carl Jones from Guildford had the same problem after 4 years. That was way back in May 2001. (see MGF Technical Archive, thread "Radiator Corrosion") It is probably to blame on the Dutch "climate", outside parking and not driving enough in winter. Cooling problem sorted out now? How was your holiday? (or did you have this job instead). Best regards, Peter |

See the MGF General where there is a current thread on Radiators |

Sadly, very common at around this age - and thereafter a common cause of coolant loss, as I recently discovered. :o( |

Thanks guys, I saw the the current thread on MGF General. And i'm glad that i'm not the only one. But I think the replacement of a radiator in 4-5 years is too soon. Most radiators have a lifetime of 10-13 years. How is it possible that the MGF have a problem with rust. - Exhaust - Radiator - coolant pipes - and several other parts. Allard |

Allard, You are right, radiators should last a (car)lifetime. Most plausible explanation so far has been given by Carl Blom of Sweden on the MGF General board (electrical system). Let's wait and see what he will find out. Peter |
